Everything Happens For a Reisling
As promised, here’s is a peak into our recent Napa trip!
We began our journey bright and early at Chateau Montelena, a bit hidden amidst the trees, but opens up to an remarkable stone building. We fell in love with the Chardonnay and found out later there was even a Netflix documentary about it – image that! Another stop was the magnificent Castello di Amorosa. The building alone is a sight to see, but if you ever get a chance to stop for a tasting, be sure to grab a splash of their Gioia (Michael and I’s favorite wine of the trip!).
Our Last day started off strong with a private tour & tasting at Somerston. This was a recommendation we’d gotten from a Napa local and boy did it pay off! This secluded estate situated on a thousand acres of rolling hills was something out of a movie. On top of that, our host provided concierge-like service. We got a tour of the barrel & productions rooms, an RTV tour of the property, and an unrushed tasting with thoughtfully picked meat & cheese pairings.
My absolute favorite tastings were at Domaine Chandon and Domaine Carneros. While Champagne isn’t Michael’s first choice, he willingly participated as I giddily tasted their delicious champs (and gave me his half [;). Thanks, Hubs!
