Creating any baby registry can feel quite overwhelming very quickly. So many brands, choices, and opinions. Where do you even start?! Then add the pressure of finding all the best low-toxic options and all of a sudden I felt very lost! At the time, I had wished that there was some sort of resource or post that shared the best low-tox options out there, which is why I decided to put one together myself. Thankfully, with the help of some friends and LOTS of research, I was able to narrow down my options and put together a registry I felt good about. Now, 3 years later, I’m back to share the products I chose and whether they were worth it, if I would repurchase, and/or maybe what I would have chosen instead.
I constantly have people asking me for my registry link, so hopefully this helps guide you in making the choices that work best for you and your family. Below you’ll see not only what I ended up choosing for each category, but a lot of additional options that I would approve of if I were to repurchase.
FURNITURE:
Crib: I focused on options free of lead and phthalates, meeting CPSC/ASTM safety standards, and featuring GREENGUARD Gold Certification for low chemical emissions.
- BABYLETTO
- NESTIG – We went with the wave crib. It’s made from sustainably harvested Brazilian pine. It’s a 3-in-1 that can be a mini crib, full crib, and toddler bed! I used the mini crib as our bassinet next to our bed so I never had to purchase a separate one. SO convenient and we have gotten YEARS out of one bed.
Glider: I focused on options that had safer materials, featuring GREENGUARD Gold certification for low VOC emissions, eco-performance fabrics (often recycled/water-repellent), sustainably sourced wood (FSC-certified), and CertiPUR-US® foam free from harmful flame retardants. Below are two great Companies for gliders.
- BABYLETTO – We went with the Nami Recliner in Ivory Boucle. Very comfortable and loved the look! I wouldn’t say the reclining option felt 100% necessary but it was nice to have!
- NURTURE&
Baby Mattress: I focused on finding an option that was free from polyurethane foam, adhesives, and harmful chemicals, featuring Greenguard Gold certification for low VOC emissions, and using natural fire barriers (wood pulp-based viscose) for safety. All of the companies below are great options for crib mattresses.
- NEWTON – This is the mattress I ended up choosing. I loved that it was breathable and non toxic. USE THIS LINK FOR $30 OFF! www.newtonbaby.com/EMILYRAINIER
- NATUREPEDIC
- AVOCADO
- MY GREEN MATTRESS
BABY GEAR: When looking for Baby gear, I prioritize no flame retardants, PFAS (forever chemicals) and VOCS (chemicals from foams and plastics). You’ll also want to look for textile certifications like GOTS and OEKO-TEX.
Stroller:
- MOCKINGBIRD – Great option for single to double stroller.
- UPPAbaby – We went with the Vista V2. Great for single to double option. Loved having the bassinet option for walks during the newborn stage, but not 100% necessary. You can always get away with getting a car seat adapter and using that instead when they are really little and not quite ready for the toddler seat. I highly recommend getting the UPPAbaby Vista V2 Travel Bag. You can use an off brand one, but they state on their website they will not adhere to the warranty if damaged during travel and not protected by their branded travel bag.
- NUNA
- BUGABOO
- ZOE – We ended up with The Tour stroller. Only 12 lbs and so easy to travel with and use for everyday errands. Their Twin (double) stroller is also very popular! USE THIS LINK FOR A DISCOUNT AT CHECKOUT https://glnk.io/zlzjm/adoseofemily
**Outlier: not a nontoxic option, but we purchased the doona and admittedly LOVED it. It’s a carseat and stroller all in one. Again, NOT a low-tox option, but worth the money IMO. We used it the entire first year of my son’s life, and it made running errands and travel SO much easier.
Car Seat:
- Nuna – We have the Pipa Aire RX. Not only is it the overall clear winner for nontoxic car seats, it’s also leading in safety. It’s incredibly light and easy to maneuver, even with a baby in it. Could not recommend this car seat enough. It’s worth the splurge IMO.
- UPPAbaby
- Britax
- UPPAbaby
- Clek
- Maxi Cosi
** Make sure you purchase a car seat adapter for whatever stroller you choose, especially if they are different brands. We own the UPPAbaby Vista V2 and the Nuna Pipa RX carseat, so we had to purchase this adapter to attach the car seat to the stroller!
Guava Lotus Travel Crib – We own this and LOVE it for travel. Very easy to put up and take down. It also packs down smaller than a carry on so you can fit it in an overhead bin on an airplane if you needed to. Very compact and light!
Slumberpod – We own this and I consider it a must have for all new moms – especially those who will be traveling. We take this on every single trip and have gotten so much use out of it. It blocks out any light so that your little one can sleep in the same room as you or a room that may not be black out. I know many who have also used this in their room during the newborn stages as well.
Carrier:
- Happy Baby
- Solly Baby – Loved this wrap for the newborn stage. They also have a new soft carrier that works for newborns that is a bit easier to get on.
- Mabe – Have heard amazing things about the monarch buckle carrier. Only made out of Cotton and Linen! Can be used as early as 7 lbs up to 35 lbs.
- Wildbird – Have heard amazing things about the aerial carrier. If I could go back, this is the carrier I would purchase! Can be used as early as 7 lbs up to 35 lbs (or 2 – 24 motnhs)
- Baby Bjorn – Have heard great things about the mini jersey carrier.
- Bumpsuit – I owned the armadillo carrier and loved it! You can start using it as early as 7 lbs up to 45 lbs. Some features I loved are a D Ring & Buttoned Elastic tab to hold a water bottle, bag, pacifier holder or dog bags & keys, a UV protection hood/weather cover, and functional pockets for phone, cards and keys. I don’t believe this is the most non toxic option from this list, which is why I would probably choose another one if I had to repurchase. USE CODE EMILYR FOR 20% OFF
Diaper Bag: I LOVE everything Mina Baie! Their bags are so stylish and chic, but incredibly functional! I recommend the Stevie or Mckinney for first time moms. Made out of vegan leather!
MISC:
- Stroller Fan – SO nice to have on those hot days to attach to your car seat or stroller! Flexible arms so its easy to attach anywhere.
- Baby Bjorn Bouncer – I opted for this instead of buying a baby swing and never looked back. Loved having this to carry form room to room. My son LOVED sitting in it! You can even buy this toy bar to attach to the front.
- Stroller Caddy – I personally have this one which holds A LOT, but also really love this one made out of vegan leather for a more sleek and low tox option.
- Car Seat Mirror
- Car Seat Camera – I am not sure why I didn’t purchase one of these sooner. Love having this and this one you can either get as a single camera or a split screen if you are thinking of more kids soon.
FEEDING:
High Chair: Focus on materials and finishes used like FDA food-grade silicone and BPA-free plastic to prevent any exposure to harmful chemicals.
- Lalo
- Mockingbird – This is the high chair we have and could not recommend this more. Best high chair on the market! Silicone straps that are easy to wipe down with magnetic click in and out, removable and easy to clean tray, adjustable foot rest to keep your baby in an ergonomically correct feeding position, and high chair can also convert to a child’s chair.
- Stokke Tripp Trapp
- Add on: A splat mat like this one is also great to use under your high chair to make cleaning up messes a little easier.
Feeding items: Stay away from plastics and choose items made out of silicone or stainless steel. For beginning feeding stages, I recommend having a suction bowl, small spoons, and a bib! Also, try and stay away from traditional sippy cups and stick with straws and open face cups.
- Lalo – They have a great starter kit that includes everything you could need. Its held up so well through washes and love the suction on the bottom. I still use the plates and bowls with my toddler.
- Mushie – Another one of my favorite brands found on amazon
- Moonkie – Another one of my favorite brands found on amazon
BREASTFEEDING:
Breast Pump:
- Spectra Synergy Gold – this portable breast pump is a great option if you want something with a more powerful suction. This one is the best of both worlds because it’s wireless – meaning you don’t have to be connected to the wall, but you still get the strength of a normal wall powered pump.
- Elvie – I used the Elvie Stride majority of the time I needed to pump (didn’t pump a lot) and LOVED it. They have a newer version now called the Elvie Stride 2.
- Eufy – Have heard great things about this hands free pump.
- Momcozy – Have heard great things about this hands free pump.
- Willow Go – Have heard great things about this hands free pump.
Nursing Breast Pads: These bamboo ones are amazing! I could not have survived early stages of breastfeeding without them! They are a must have.
Nipple Butter: I trust anything Earth Mama. I really cared about what I was putting on my nippes, since that’s where my baby’s mouth would be. Having this and the silverettes I’ve linked below are also a must for breastfeeding mamas!
Silverettes: Silver has healing properties and these are a MUST if you are planning on breastfeeding. I basically lived with these in my bra in between feeds for the first several weeks and they helped my nipples so much. Just makes sure you are getting ones that are REAL silver. There are a lot of imposters out there!
Bottles: I focused on glass bottles that have silicone nipples vs plastic. I also prioritized finding a bottle that had a breast like nipple and anti colic flow. Bottles are a very individual preference that you often won’t know what your bay prefers until you try some. My advice would be not to commit to just one type. Try a few!
- Dr. Browns Natural Flow Anti- Colic – These are the bottles my son ended up loving the most!
- Comotomo – These are a great option if you don’t want to do glass. The bottle and nipple are made out of 100% food grade silicone.
- Tommee Tippee – These are the original ones we got, but my son did not prefer them. Just his personal preference. Still would highly recommend this brand.
Breastmilk Storage: Same rules apply here as for the bottles. I try to stick to silicone or glass storage. If you plan to have a pretty large stash, regular plastic bags may be a more economically and space friendly option.
- Silicone Bags – These are a great option from amazon.
- Mason Bottle Storage Jars – Loved that these come in different sizes. I used these ALL the time!
- Mom Cozy Portable Breastmilk Cooler – These are great for keeping milk collection cold. Was a game changer for during the night feeds or just travel/on the go. Made out of stainless steel.
- Ceres Portable Breastmilk Cooler – Another option like the one above.
Burp Cloth: I would stick with Muslin or 100% Cotton. I own these muslin ones and absolutely love them!
Manual Breast Pump:
- Haakaa Manual Breast Pump/Collector – This one is made out of silicone.
- Medela Manual Hand Pump – This one is made out of plastic (BPA free), but I’ve heard great things about it.
Breastmilk Collector:
- Haakaa Ladybug – I used this all the time on one side while my baby was feeding on the other to collect any leaking milk. You don’t want anything to go to waste!
- Elvie Curve – Also owned and loved using this one as well.
Bibs: I would stick with muslin or 100% cotton. I own these muslin ones and absolutely love them!
Bottle Drying Rack: I love this one from ezpz made from 100% silicone. Also recommend this silicone bottle brush by haakaa and this dish washing tub for sanitizing pump and bottle parts.
SLEEPING:
Sleep Swaddles: We tried using swaddle blankets for the first several days, but very quickly realized we needed something more legit and easier to use. You’ll want to look for options that are organic cotton, merino wool and bamboo. The options below are what we tried for our son. Overall, we didn’t love swaddling in general, so I don’t have a huge opinion on which one is the best. It’s definitely a preference.
- Kyte Baby – made of rayon from bamboo.
- Ollie
- Love To Dream – The most low tox option of the three.
Sleep Sacks: same applies for sleep sacks as well.
- Kyte Baby – Not the most low tox option, but we LOVED these. Super soft made of rayon from bamboo.
- Amazon – Rayon made from bamboo
- Burts Bees – Organic Cotton
- Touched By Nature – Organic Cotton
- KeaBabies – Organic Cotton
- Owlivia – Organic Cotton
- Woolino – Organic Cotton
Travel Sound Machine
- Hatch – This one works amazing and is aesthetically pleasing!
- Amazon – Another great option at a lower price point. We also own this one and loved it.
Hatch Sound Machine: Didn’t use this until my son started sleeping in his own room, but now we can’t live without it!
Baby Shusher: This was so nice to have in the newborn stage. I used this multiple times daily!
Travel Night Light: THIS IS A MUST HAVE. In the newborn stage I used this in our room for middle of the night feeds and diaper changes. Later on it was great to travel with, but you’ll get use out of this from day 1!
Pacifiers: We used Ninni Co. Was highly recommended to promote proper latch for breastfed babies and is 100% silicone. Overall, I would look for natural rubber or silicone options vs plastic, and preferrably something “nipple/breast like”.
Baby Monitors: We wanted one that did not use wifi to decrease the EMF exposure.
- This Bonoch one was been amazing! They also have a split screen option here if you are thinking of more kids down the road. I personally wish I would have originally bought one with that capability right off the bat.
- BabySense – can do split screen
- VAVA
- HelloBaby – can do split screen
DIAPERING:
Diapers: This is an extremely loaded topic, but one of the biggest things I look for in diapers is whether or not they have chlorine, fragrances, lotions and other harmful chemicals. I look mainly for the diaper to be made out of plant based materials. Be careful, a lot of brands can claim that they are plant based, when a majority of the diaper isn’t. You specifically want the INSIDE of the diaper (the part that actually touches the baby) to have NO plastic. Below are the brands that I trust.
Wipes: Same applies for wipes. This is a very loaded topic, but overall you are looking for fewer ingredients and fragrance free. There are a lot of chemicals and preservatives put into wipes that you want to avoid. Below are the two wipe brands that I trust.
Ubbi Diaper Pail: We own this and love that is closes at the top to keep odors locked inside. It also comes with a locking feature if you have a curious toddler! We use the Ubbi bags for inside.
Changing Pad:
- Keekaroo: This is the one that we own. Made out of Dura-Soft Material (Polyurethane). Free of latex, PVC, BPA, Pthalates and Formamide. I also chose this one because its easy to wipe down and clean.
- Naturepedic: Another great non toxic option made mainly of organic cotton. Only downfall is you do have to buy covers that you will have to remove and wash when dirty vs being bale to wipe it down.
Travel Baby Changing Pad: This is so nice to have on the go! I actually used a travel pad for newborn days on the bed or couch so I didn’t have to get up and go to a changing table every time (you change so many diapers in those early days!).
Diaper Caddy:
- Amazon: LOVED this one! Kept it in our bedroom during the night and carried it around the house from room to room with all the essentials I needed throughout the day.
- Happ Brand: This one is a bit of a splurge, but loved the aesthetic look and kept this one in my sons room. We still use it to this day. Not necessary to have more than one diaper caddy, but this one is gorgeous!
Primally Pure Baby Balm: My absolute favorite non toxic baby body products. Makes such a good gift for an expecting mom. I used the baby balm and oil in this kit constantly! USE CODE ADOSEOFEMILY FOR A DISCOUNT!
BATHING:
Earth Mama Baby Wash: My favorite baby body wash! Anything by Earth Mama is fantastic!
Roe Wellness Lotion + Serum Duo: My absolute favorite baby lotion! This serum and lotion pair is a must! I repurchased this so many times.
Baby Brush: I loved having this on hand if you have a little one with hair. 🙂
Bath Towels: I look for 100% cotton or muslin.
Wash Cloths: I look for 100% cotton or muslin.
LALO Bath Set: We have the full kit and absolutely loved it! If you just want the absolute essentials, the starter kit is great too. Can be used from 0-12 months. The inner piece comes out and just leaves an open tub which my son loved once he could sit up on his own. Free of BPA, Latex and Pthalates.
HEALTH:
Rectal Thermometer: You’ll get the most accurate temperature reading through a rectal thermometer.
Nail Clippers: This nail trimmer is a must have! Made trimming newborn nails so easy and safe.
Carepod Humidifier: This is the BEST humidifier on the market. Made out of stainless steel and designed to be anti-mold. VERY easy to clean (you just boil water in the stainless steel pot to sterilize). This is one of my top recommendations if you need a humidifier!
Snot Sucker:
- NoseFrida: This is another must have for all newborns whenever they have congestion. It’s pulls all the snot right out!
- Electric Snot Sucker: They also have electric versions now that light up and play music.
MISC:
Baby Hangers: I still use these for my toddlers clothes.
Closet Dividers: These are so nice to have to separate your baby clothes by months.
Crib Sheets – I absolutely love these muslin mushie brand crib sheets. I’ve purchased them multiple times!
Play Mat:
- Lovevery Play Gym: We owned this and I absolutely loved it. The mouthable pieces are made with 100% organic cotton and silicone, but the mat is made with polyester fiber. I actually used the Gathre padded mini circle mat that fits perfectly under the lovevery gym as a more nontoxic option.
- Lalo Play Gym: Another great option that comes with full play gym.
- Toddlekind: 100% Organic Cotton play mat.
- MakeMake Organics – GOTS certified organic cotton play mat.
- Gathre: This is also one of my favorite brands as well. They have amazing leather padded mats that we have owned and loved. They also have a play gym!
Teethers: Look for 100% silicone and stay away from plastic! I love anything Mushie.
Snuggle Me Lounger: I used this constantly in the newborn phase as a place to set my son down supervised. I also bought this cover to make it easy to clean!
Items I purchased but felt were overrated:
- Baby Brezza Bottle Warmer – I personally found this to not be a necessary. We rarely ever used it and my son had no problem drinking cold milk. If anything, we would occasionally place it in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes and that worked just fine.
- Boppy Pillow – I’m sure this is just personal preference, but I rarely used this pillow. I would typically use other normal pillows on my bed instead. I do think this would have been more important if maybe I needed more breastfeeding support.
- Wipe Warmer – I actually never purchased one of these, but I hear they can harbor bacteria AND make your baby used to warm wipes, which you won’t always have on hand.
- Swing – I personally just used the baby bjorn bouncer and loved it. I didn’t want to be tempted to leave my baby in the swing for too long, which is why I opted against it and honestly never missed having one!
I hope that this was helpful in guiding you on your low tox baby registry journey! Please leave any questions or comments below. Happy registry shopping!
xx,
Emily
