My Low-Toxic Baby Registry

Creating any baby registry can feel quite overwhelming very quickly. So many brands, choices, and opinions. Where do you even start?! Then add the pressure of finding all the best low-toxic options and all of a sudden I felt very lost! At the time, I had wished that there was some sort of resource or post that shared the best low-tox options out there, which is why I decided to put one together myself. Thankfully, with the help of some friends and LOTS of research, I was able to narrow down my options and put together a registry I felt good about. Now, 3 years later, I’m back to share the products I chose and whether they were worth it, if I would repurchase, and/or maybe what I would have chosen instead.

I constantly have people asking me for my registry link, so hopefully this helps guide you in making the choices that work best for you and your family. Below you’ll see not only what I ended up choosing for each category, but a lot of additional options that I would approve of if I were to repurchase.

FURNITURE:

Crib: I focused on options free of lead and phthalates, meeting CPSC/ASTM safety standards, and featuring GREENGUARD Gold Certification for low chemical emissions.

Glider: I focused on options that had safer materials, featuring GREENGUARD Gold certification for low VOC emissions, eco-performance fabrics (often recycled/water-repellent), sustainably sourced wood (FSC-certified), and CertiPUR-US® foam free from harmful flame retardants. Below are two great Companies for gliders.

Baby Mattress: I focused on finding an option that was free from polyurethane foam, adhesives, and harmful chemicals, featuring Greenguard Gold certification for low VOC emissions, and using natural fire barriers (wood pulp-based viscose) for safety. All of the companies below are great options for crib mattresses.

BABY GEAR: When looking for Baby gear, I prioritize no flame retardants, PFAS (forever chemicals) and VOCS (chemicals from foams and plastics). You’ll also want to look for textile certifications like GOTS and OEKO-TEX.

Stroller:

**Outlier: not a nontoxic option, but we purchased the doona and admittedly LOVED it. It’s a carseat and stroller all in one. Again, NOT a low-tox option, but worth the money IMO. We used it the entire first year of my son’s life, and it made running errands and travel SO much easier.

Car Seat:

** Make sure you purchase a car seat adapter for whatever stroller you choose, especially if they are different brands. We own the UPPAbaby Vista V2 and the Nuna Pipa RX carseat, so we had to purchase this adapter to attach the car seat to the stroller!

Guava Lotus Travel Crib – We own this and LOVE it for travel. Very easy to put up and take down. It also packs down smaller than a carry on so you can fit it in an overhead bin on an airplane if you needed to. Very compact and light!

Slumberpod – We own this and I consider it a must have for all new moms – especially those who will be traveling. We take this on every single trip and have gotten so much use out of it. It blocks out any light so that your little one can sleep in the same room as you or a room that may not be black out. I know many who have also used this in their room during the newborn stages as well.

Carrier:

Diaper Bag: I LOVE everything Mina Baie! Their bags are so stylish and chic, but incredibly functional! I recommend the Stevie or Mckinney for first time moms. Made out of vegan leather!

MISC:

FEEDING:

High Chair: Focus on materials and finishes used like FDA food-grade silicone and BPA-free plastic to prevent any exposure to harmful chemicals.

Feeding items: Stay away from plastics and choose items made out of silicone or stainless steel. For beginning feeding stages, I recommend having a suction bowl, small spoons, and a bib! Also, try and stay away from traditional sippy cups and stick with straws and open face cups.

BREASTFEEDING:

Breast Pump:

Nursing Breast Pads: These bamboo ones are amazing! I could not have survived early stages of breastfeeding without them! They are a must have.

Nipple Butter: I trust anything Earth Mama. I really cared about what I was putting on my nippes, since that’s where my baby’s mouth would be. Having this and the silverettes I’ve linked below are also a must for breastfeeding mamas!

Silverettes: Silver has healing properties and these are a MUST if you are planning on breastfeeding. I basically lived with these in my bra in between feeds for the first several weeks and they helped my nipples so much. Just makes sure you are getting ones that are REAL silver. There are a lot of imposters out there!

Bottles: I focused on glass bottles that have silicone nipples vs plastic. I also prioritized finding a bottle that had a breast like nipple and anti colic flow. Bottles are a very individual preference that you often won’t know what your bay prefers until you try some. My advice would be not to commit to just one type. Try a few!

Breastmilk Storage: Same rules apply here as for the bottles. I try to stick to silicone or glass storage. If you plan to have a pretty large stash, regular plastic bags may be a more economically and space friendly option.

Burp Cloth: I would stick with Muslin or 100% Cotton. I own these muslin ones and absolutely love them!

Manual Breast Pump:

Breastmilk Collector:

Bibs: I would stick with muslin or 100% cotton. I own these muslin ones and absolutely love them!

Bottle Drying Rack: I love this one from ezpz made from 100% silicone. Also recommend this silicone bottle brush by haakaa and this dish washing tub for sanitizing pump and bottle parts.

SLEEPING:

Sleep Swaddles: We tried using swaddle blankets for the first several days, but very quickly realized we needed something more legit and easier to use. You’ll want to look for options that are organic cotton, merino wool and bamboo. The options below are what we tried for our son. Overall, we didn’t love swaddling in general, so I don’t have a huge opinion on which one is the best. It’s definitely a preference.

Sleep Sacks: same applies for sleep sacks as well.

Travel Sound Machine

Hatch Sound Machine: Didn’t use this until my son started sleeping in his own room, but now we can’t live without it!

Baby Shusher: This was so nice to have in the newborn stage. I used this multiple times daily!

Travel Night Light: THIS IS A MUST HAVE. In the newborn stage I used this in our room for middle of the night feeds and diaper changes. Later on it was great to travel with, but you’ll get use out of this from day 1!

Pacifiers: We used Ninni Co. Was highly recommended to promote proper latch for breastfed babies and is 100% silicone. Overall, I would look for natural rubber or silicone options vs plastic, and preferrably something “nipple/breast like”.

Baby Monitors: We wanted one that did not use wifi to decrease the EMF exposure.

DIAPERING:

Diapers: This is an extremely loaded topic, but one of the biggest things I look for in diapers is whether or not they have chlorine, fragrances, lotions and other harmful chemicals. I look mainly for the diaper to be made out of plant based materials. Be careful, a lot of brands can claim that they are plant based, when a majority of the diaper isn’t. You specifically want the INSIDE of the diaper (the part that actually touches the baby) to have NO plastic. Below are the brands that I trust.

Wipes: Same applies for wipes. This is a very loaded topic, but overall you are looking for fewer ingredients and fragrance free. There are a lot of chemicals and preservatives put into wipes that you want to avoid. Below are the two wipe brands that I trust.

Ubbi Diaper Pail: We own this and love that is closes at the top to keep odors locked inside. It also comes with a locking feature if you have a curious toddler! We use the Ubbi bags for inside.

Changing Pad:

Travel Baby Changing Pad: This is so nice to have on the go! I actually used a travel pad for newborn days on the bed or couch so I didn’t have to get up and go to a changing table every time (you change so many diapers in those early days!).

Diaper Caddy:

Primally Pure Baby Balm: My absolute favorite non toxic baby body products. Makes such a good gift for an expecting mom. I used the baby balm and oil in this kit constantly! USE CODE ADOSEOFEMILY FOR A DISCOUNT!

BATHING:

Earth Mama Baby Wash: My favorite baby body wash! Anything by Earth Mama is fantastic!

Roe Wellness Lotion + Serum Duo: My absolute favorite baby lotion! This serum and lotion pair is a must! I repurchased this so many times.

Baby Brush: I loved having this on hand if you have a little one with hair. 🙂

Bath Towels: I look for 100% cotton or muslin.

Wash Cloths: I look for 100% cotton or muslin.

LALO Bath Set: We have the full kit and absolutely loved it! If you just want the absolute essentials, the starter kit is great too. Can be used from 0-12 months. The inner piece comes out and just leaves an open tub which my son loved once he could sit up on his own. Free of BPA, Latex and Pthalates.

HEALTH:

Rectal Thermometer: You’ll get the most accurate temperature reading through a rectal thermometer.

Nail Clippers: This nail trimmer is a must have! Made trimming newborn nails so easy and safe.

Carepod Humidifier: This is the BEST humidifier on the market. Made out of stainless steel and designed to be anti-mold. VERY easy to clean (you just boil water in the stainless steel pot to sterilize). This is one of my top recommendations if you need a humidifier!

Snot Sucker:

MISC:

Baby Hangers: I still use these for my toddlers clothes.

Closet Dividers: These are so nice to have to separate your baby clothes by months.

Crib Sheets – I absolutely love these muslin mushie brand crib sheets. I’ve purchased them multiple times!

Play Mat:

Teethers: Look for 100% silicone and stay away from plastic! I love anything Mushie.

Snuggle Me Lounger: I used this constantly in the newborn phase as a place to set my son down supervised. I also bought this cover to make it easy to clean!

Items I purchased but felt were overrated:
